I am Steve – Alaskan Travel Blogger

Explore Alaska With Me.

My Wife and I love Alaska and travel all over the State. We camp, hike, ATV, snowmachine, fish, tour, and more. Join us here to get a local view of some of the coolest places in Alaska, and therefore, the world.

My story of travelling through the world

I retired from the Army after serving 28 years. One of the great things about the Army was travelling around the world and seeing new places – many awesome, and a few less hospitable ones. We were fortunate enough to be stationed at Fort Greely, Alaska in the mid 90s, and we fell in love with the State. When I retired, everything fell into place……my wife got a terrific job with the Air Force at Joint Base Elmendorf, and we were able to move back to Alaska and start exploring, traveling, and playing.

Destinations

South Central

Anchorage, Matanuska-Susitna, and the Kenai Peninsula

Interior

Fairbanks, Denali Country, Copper River Valley, Richardson Highway, Alaska Highway

Southeast

The panhandle of Alaska and primry Cruise region including Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway

Off the Beaten Path

Places you can’t reach by road outside of the Southeast.

Turnagain Arm is an excellent place to explore and tour. Wildlife is commonly seen including moose, bald eagles, shore birds, dall sheep, and bears. I spotted the coyote, above, crossing a frozen lake near Placer River. If you don’t have any luck encountering animals along the road, you can always visit the Wildlife Conservation Center which is home to a variety of Alaskan species.

Whittier is a terrific town to visit during the summer given it’s picturesque setting snuggled between steep mountains and the sea. Bears, like the one above, are often seen on Cove Creek during the pink salmon run in August..

Gold prospecting is a passion for me. The gold in the pan above was from Resurrection Creek near Hope.
